PFM SCORP CIMSA USU: CRUSH, Combating and Responding to Sexual Harassment

  • Post Category:SCORP

Due to the large number of cases of sexual harassment that have occurred lately, SCORP CIMSA USU has held a series of activities called CRUSH or “Combating and Responding to Sexual Harassment” Through 3 forms of activities that have been carried out from March 11th to March 12th, 2023. CRUSH is expected to increase awareness and knowledge of high school students in Medan City and the general public regarding sexual harassment and its impact on the victims.

CRUSH’s activity began with counseling in the form of delivering material and roleplay regarding sexual harassment in SMA Negeri 3 Medan on March 11th 2023. The presentation of the material was delivered by Ms. Sierly Anita Gafar, S.H. from LBH APIK Medan, a non-governmental legal aid foundation that provides free legal assistance to women and children, especially to those who experience sex and gender-based violence. During the counseling, participants were introduced to the forms of relationships that are included in toxic relationships. Participants are also taught about tips to avoid toxic relationship situations, then followed by a question and answer session where the participants actively asked about many things related to toxic relationships and sexual harassment, especially incidents that often occur in their social environment. Participants were also given a roleplay where two participants were appointed to give a demonstration on the topics that had been given regarding how to prevent toxic relationships so that participants could put into practice the knowledge gained during the counseling. At the end of the event, CRUSH also rewarded the participants who were active during the counseling. The participants were very enthusiastic in participating in this counseling so we hope to hold similar activities every year.

In addition, CRUSH also released a Spotify podcast on March 12th, 2023 about what sexual harassment is and its impact on victims. On this podcast, CRUSH also invited Ms. Sierly Anita Gafar, S.H. from LBH APIK Medan as the informant. The choice of topic and platform is also based on the high cases of sexual harassment, especially among teenagers, where the majority of podcast listeners are also teenagers. On the same date, CRUSH also uploaded an educational poster on USU’s CIMSA Instagram feed about definitions, epidemiology, classification, and the impact on victims of sexual harassment.
